This paper presents a case study of an oil field that requires further development to optimize the oil recovery factor on limited land area. The oil field location overlaps with coal concessions. This study aims to define a further development scenario to optimize the oil recovery factor and at the same time allow the coal to be mined optimally. Based on the mining operations plan and the geological of overlapping area, the directional development wells for production and injection will be placed in a cluster on the anticline area within radius of 500 meters, in which the active wells are situated. Reservoir simulation method is applied to evaluate various further development scenarios. Reservoir model used is validated by the material balance method and history matching process. The optimal oil recovery factor resulted by using the existing five production wells, the existing injection well, four additional productions and one additional injection wells. The additional wells are designed as directional wells. The obtained oil recovery factor is 23.7%, increased 6.7% compared to the recovery factor at the end of history matching. Approach developed in this case study is expected to be a model in optimizing of oil and gas recoveries within an overlapping working area.
