Injeksi kimia terdiri dari ASP (Alkali, Surfaktan, Polimer), yang dapat diinjeksikan secara sendiri sendiri ataupun dicampur. Injeksi kimia dapat dirancang untuk suatu reservoar minyak tertentu dengan: injeksi alkali, injeksi surfaktan, injeksi polimer, injeksi alkali-surfaktan-polimer secara berturutan, injeksi surfaktan polimer secara berturutan, injeksi campuran alkali/surfaktan/polimer, dan injeksi campuran surfaktan/polimer. Sebelum implementasi injeksi kimia ASP perlu dilakukan studi secara intensif di laboratorium untuk menentukan kriteria uji penyaringan injeksi kimia untuk EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) memenuhi syarat untuk dapat diaplikasikan dilapangan dan berpotensi untuk menaikkan perolehan minyak. Parameter yang diuji meliputi: kompatibilitas, IFT (interfacial tension), ketahanan panas, adsorpsi, fi ltrasi, kelakuan fasa, sifat kebasahan, imbibisi, dan percobaan pendesakan batu inti. Harga dari pengukuran parameter tersebut harus memenuhi kriteria uji penyaringan untuk injeksi kimia ASP.
