Sub-Cekungan Bagian Selatan (Dalaman Tamiang) mengalami tektonik intensif.

This research gives a new perspective in basin formation of North Sumatra because the previous research still regards the Mallaca Fault play role in its basin forming. The data used in this research is gravity map, basement configuration map, seismic, and wells. The North Sumatra Basin can be divided into teo (2) sub-basins, which is: The Northern Sub-Basin and The Southern Sub-Basin. The Northern Sub-Basin is deep, have a thick Paleogene sediment, have a low acceleration gravity, and lower heatflow, like in Arun Deep. However, the Southern Sub- Basin is shallower, have a thinner Paleogene sediment, higher gravity acceleration, and higher heatflow, which make the area is potential to be source rock for shale gas. The Southern Sub-Basin (Tamiang Deep have intense tectonic phase. The research about sedimentation, tectonic, and geochemistry can make the exploration concept for shale gas in North Sumatra Basin.
