Studi biomarker dilakukan pada sampel batulempung dari Formasi Jatiluhur di daerah Karawang, Jawa Barat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji karakteristik biomarker batuan induk hidrokarbon dari sampel batulempung Formasi Jatiluhur. Metode yang dipakai adalah pengambilan conto permukaan dilapangan dan analisis GCMS di laboratorium. Hasil analisis GCMS menunjukkan Fragmentogram massa m/z 191 memperlihatkan fasies sumbernya berasal berasal dari tanaman darat. Tingkat kematangan berdasarkan hasil perhitungan Tm/Ts (17a(H), 21b (H), adalah 22, 29, 30, trisnorhopane/18a(H), 21b (H), 22, 29, 30, trisnorhopane) adalah 3,23-24,76 menunjukkan biomarker kurang matang. Lingkungan pengendapan asal material organik Formasi Jatiluhur di daerah Karawang berdasarkan plot diagram segitiga Huang dan Meinchen, 1979 menunjukkan pada open marine, estuarine dan terrestrial
